The Best Thing to Happen This Year – 100 Day Blog Challenge – Day 72

Best Thing This Year

Going to school smile

I think I was specifically waiting for this day to share this topic.  Maybe there’s a little selfishness on my part, but, today was the best day so far.  Today, all 3 of my kids were in school.  I actually had a kid-free zone for a short time today, which is a prelude of what’s to come this fall.

Very excited

Isaac, my youngest, had an orientation today, where he got to experience school.  It was for 3 hours, and he has been looking forward to this day for quite some time.  I treated today like it was the first day of school in the fall.  Took pictures of all 3, and thankfully they were willing participants.  Elijah and Justus got on the bus, and I drove Isaac in.  Well, when we got there, he was MORE than ready for the day.  He was practically kicking me out the door.  He’s so ready for school.

When I got home, it was unbelievably QUIET!!!  For the first time in a long time, there were no screaming kids, me having to yell at anyone or dealing with chaos.  You could hear a pin drop.  I’ve always been saying that once they’re all in school, I would have a mini party and go wild.  That didn’t happen today.  What I did notice was that while it was great to have the quiet, it’s not something that will be a routine once they’re all in school.  I definitely realized that I will keep myself busy with other Moms, working my business, and getting out and meeting people.

I went to pick up Isaac and looking at all the kids as they were leaving for recess, I got a little emotional.  My kids are growing up so fast.  I saw Isaac coming out with his group, and he looked like he fit in just fine.  I knew he’d be okay, but seeing that look of calm and relaxation gave me a great sense of relief.  His brothers came over to check on how he liked his day in school and even some of the other students came over to check on Isaac.  That really gave me a sense of security knowing there are other students looking out for my little guy.

The best thing about today is that we were all ready for today.  No one was scared, no one got cold feet, no one got clingy.  It was an easy transition and I think it was so easy because my two other boys are excited about school (most of the time.)  I also realized just how blessed I am to have 3 boys who are always there for each other.

We’re all going to be just fine.
