On Being Selfless – 100 Day Blog Challenge Day 13

Performing Selfless Acts

One of the things I like to do is post quotes on my social media accounts.  It’s my way of sharing wisdom, knowledge or just to make someone’s day.  I don’t do it for notoriety or any bells and whistles.  I believe we all have a duty to do good and be unselfish.

One of the quotes I posted today was:

“Beginning today, treat everyone you meet as if they were going to be dead by midnight. Extend to them all the care, kindness and understanding you can muster, and do with no thought of any reward. Your life will never be the same again.” – Og Mandino

This one had the hairs on my head stand up and got me thinking (which can sometimes be a bad thing.)  How many of us really do good for and by others without expecting anything in return.  I’ve had to think about this lately based on the actions of others.  Some I encounter have that genuine do-good attitude and it always shows.  Some, however, put on a good show for some people, but reveal their true colors with other people.

Why the show?  Why not be true to who you are?  The truth is always enough because in the end, if you are not genuine, it will come out.  When it does, others will not appreciate the deception.

Be true to others.  Be selfless.  Help someone in need.  Extend a hand.  Do these things without the expectation of something in return.  It really is a great feeling to help others.  It comes back two-fold.  But then again, when you are deceptive, that comes back even worse.  So, be true with your intentions.  You never know when it will come back to you.
