The Importance of Networking – 100 Day Blog Challenge Day 11

Why Networking Works

Today was one of those tipping points, so to speak.  If you’re not sure what that means, a tipping point is that “a-ha” moment that happens in your life that catapults you to move forward, take action and conquer the world.

I was invited to attend a networking mixer with several women entrepreneurs on the island, and, wow, was I impressed.  I mingled with so many women who are taking action and making a difference that it felt so great to be in their presence.  It was also an ideal time for me to get out of the house and truly network.  Having that face to face interaction with another live person is truly the best way to connect, in my opinion.

Don’t get me wrong, connecting online is important, in fact, I’ve been able to reconnect with old acquaintances through social media.  However, you can’t replace that one on one interaction, to see and hear and feel the emotion of another person and looking them in the eye.  Call me old school, but, I will take the mingling of a gathering anytime.  Yes, I am an introvert in the beginning, but once I feel comfortable and in my element, I am all in.

Well, I had the chance to meet and get to know some very amazing women during this mixer.  We chatted, got to know each other, exchanged business cards, and it was such a positive, uplifting atmosphere. Every individual at that mixer, were there for one sole purpose – to connect with fellow women entrepreneurs and expand their network.  There was no hidden agenda, no one seemed fake.  Everyone was very warm, receptive and supportive.

I had a blast.  It felt great to be there.  There were a few women there I had met before, so it was great to see them again, but what was really great was the fact that everyone I spoke with would suggest other women to reach out to and get to know.  Maybe because this was my first networking event, and I don’t think I am being naive, but it’s so nice to know that there are still people out there who are looking out for the best interests of others and not just their bottom line.  Women empowering women – that’s all it was about.

As Zig Ziglar says, “You can have everything in life you want if you will just help enough other people get what they want.”

Looking forward to the next networking event; just not sure when it will be.  It was so nice to be welcomed, embraced and accepted.  This seems very rare nowadays.  Call me crazy, but I still believe there are good, genuine, unselfish people out there.  We just have to be willing to find them.
